Football Recap: Ashley Comes Up Short

Ashley was the 23-17 winner over New Hanover when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Screaming Eagle fell 32-22 to the Wildcats on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Ashley lost, don't look at Bryson Lovelace. Despite the final result, he rushed for 183 yards and two scores while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Lovelace is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last five games he's played.

New Hanover was led to victory by Tanahri Johnson and Tony Clark-Nelson. Johnson rushed for 54 yards and a pair of TDs, while Clark-Nelson gained 138 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Johnson a new career-high in passer rating (118.1).

Ashley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for New Hanover, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-4.
