Basketball Recap: Mullen Comes Up Short

Mullen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by the Eaglecrest Raptors 80-45. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Raptors are ranked second).

When it comes to explaining why Mullen lost, don't look at Ben Medina. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 11 to rack up 18 points and five boards. What's more, Medina also posted a 64% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in February of 2024. Brady Driscoll was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

Eaglecrest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kris Coleman led the charge by going 5 for 8 en route to 15 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Garrett Barger, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points and five boards.

Mullen's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Eaglecrest, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Looking ahead, Mullen will be playing in front of their home fans against Cherokee Trail at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mullen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for Eaglecrest, they will challenge Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Eaglecrest's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 17 matchups.
