Baseball Game Preview: Rustburg Red Devils vs. Liberty Minutemen

The Rustburg Red Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Liberty Minutemen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Rustburg is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Glass on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to the Hilltoppers. The contest marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Amherst County hit Liberty with a 14-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Minutemen came up short against the Lancers, falling 20-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Minutemen in their meetings with the Lancers: they've now lost nine in a row.

Liberty saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Russell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Rustburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Everything went Rustburg's way against Liberty when the teams last played back in April, as Rustburg made off with an 11-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
