Baseball Recap: Ell-Saline Takes a Loss

Ell-Saline extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-17 in the process. They lost 11-1 to Sedgwick. Unfortunately, that's the first time they've come up short against Sedgwick this season, with their most recent defeat being a 11-1 loss on Friday.

As for Sedgwick, the win keeps they at an undefeated 24-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.0 runs this season.

For Sedgwick's part, Owen Luper made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave Luper a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karston Wall, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. Braeden Briggs was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sedgwick beat Ell-Saline by a score of 11-1 later that day.
