Baseball Game Preview: Chapel Hill Bulldogs vs. Kilgore Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Chapel Hill will face off against Kilgore. We've got a battle between Bulldogs coming up. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Chapel Hill has struggled recently with nine losses in a row, while Kilgore will arrive with four straight wins.

Chapel Hill lost 11-2 to Kilgore on Tuesday.

For Kilgore's part, Cason Edney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Edney also tossed no walks, which is notable because Kilgore is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-11-1 otherwise. Edney was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Salvador Cervantes and Miles Applegate did most of the damage at the plate: Cervantes scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Applegate scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Applegate a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaeson Clayton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Kilgore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Chapel Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17-1. As for Kilgore, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12-1.
