League recap: North Rowan tops Providence Grove to extend winning streak

2A Conference 10 recap September 24, 2013

North Rowan added to the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 10 this week by beating Providence Grove, 52-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Cavaliers.

Kelvin Pena was the best receiver in the league this week as East Davidson bested Wheatmore. Pena racked up 3 receptions for 55 yards.

Bryce Bolen was the best running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 105 yards as the Golden Eagles topped the Warriors. Teammate Andrew Hoosier added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.

Bolen was a passing and rushing force as East Davidson topped Wheatmore.

Justin Bennett put up the best numbers through the air as West Davidson beat Trinity. He had a total of 7 completions for 92 yards. Bennett's favorite target this week was Jacob Gobble, who caught 3 passes for 31 yards.

On the heels of Austin Wallace and Bolen, Vance Hanner's team has had great success on offense. Wallace is tops in the league in passing with 539 yards, while Bolen has rushed for 395 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Dragons' Zach Queen, with 329 yards on 21 catches.

West Davidson made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,729 from 9,583. The improvement was the result of 14-0 victory over the Bulldogs last week.
