Recap: Hay Springs Hawks vs. Morrill Lions
The Hay Springs Hawks waltzed into their matchup Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They managed a 51-46 win over Morrill. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 8 on the offensive boards, as Hay Springs did.
Gabby Twarling continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Hay Springs' points. Another player making a difference was Julia Russell, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Morrill still got an impressive performance from Brooklyn Brown, who scored 23 points along with five steals. The matchup was Brown's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklin Hess, who scored five points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Hay Springs has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Morrill, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Hay Springs won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Crawford at 3:30 p.m. on December 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Crawford is ranked 136th, while Hay Springs is ranked 128th). Morrill won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Banner County at 12:00 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Banner County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Monday.
