Mason Hoenle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Kalamazoo Central is 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 8-10 otherwise. Hoenle was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dewey Young, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Kalamazoo Central is 3-1 when Young posts two or more runs, but 9-11 otherwise. Joey Spada was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Kalamazoo Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lakeshore is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of South Bend Saint Joseph. The Lancers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Huskies, sneaking past 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Lancers sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Lakeshore's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Kalamazoo Central, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.
