The Horizon Huskies will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Casteel Colts at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Horizon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
In Monday's Canine Competition, Horizon came out on top. They walked away with an 11-8 win over Campo Verde on Monday. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Coyotes on their field since March 16, 2018.
Pierson Hozza made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Kaia Stephens was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in home runs. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Lenzi, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Horizon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Casteel came up short against Mountain Ridge on Monday, falling 7-1.
Casteel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was KJ Tipton, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Horizon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Casteel's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-8.
Casteel's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Horizon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. It's a different story for Casteel, though, as they've only averaged .341. Will they be able to contain Horizon's hitters?
Horizon came out on top in a nail-biter against Casteel in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will Horizon repeat their success, or does Casteel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
