Baseball Game Preview: Crown Point Bulldogs vs. Merrillville Pirates

For the second straight game, Crown Point will face off against Merrillville. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Crown Point is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Crown Point will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Merrillville on Tuesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 13-1 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Logan Cotton looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Crown Point got a massive performance out of Sean Dunlap, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Dunlap a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Ehrlich, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Crown Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Crown Point's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Merrillville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
