Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Doniphan

Doniphan proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Thayer Bobcats. The win was familiar territory for the Dons, who have now won five games in a row.

MaKenzie Taylor made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Paysley Klepzig and Carson Hagood did most of the damage at the plate: Klepzig scored three runs while going 2-for-4, while Hagood got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Hagood brought in this season.

Doniphan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive matches.

Doniphan's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Thayer, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Doniphan will take on Kennett at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Thayer, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Salem at 4:30 p.m.
