Baseball Recap: Berea Has No Trouble Against Somerset Christian

Berea never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Somerset Christian Cougars. Considering the Pirates have won five matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Blake King made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Berea is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. King was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Prophitt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Berea's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 4-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Ethan Slone was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Berea's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Somerset Christian, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Coming up, Berea will challenge Estill County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Engineers have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Somerset Christian, they will take on Casey County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
