Basketball Recap: Pikes Peak Christian Eagles vs. Elbert Bulldogs

Even though the Pikes Peak Christian Eagles have not done well against the Elbert Bulldogs recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Pikes Peak Christian skirted past the Bulldogs 41-39. This was payback for Pikes Peak Christian, who suffered a 45-23 loss the last time these two teams met.

Pikes Peak Christian was led to victory by Rebecca Thomas and Sarah Harris. Thomas scored 15 points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Harris scored 15 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Thomas is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Elbert saw an underclassman step up: Melanie Hermes scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hermes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Pasicznyk Davy, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Pikes Peak Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Elbert, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pikes Peak Christian will take on the Danes at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fountain Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Saturday. As for Elbert, they will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Rocky Mountain Lutheran's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while the Bulldogs have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
