Dawson-Bryant has gone a perfect 8-0 against South Point recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Hornets are taking a road trip to challenge the Pointers at 5:30 p.m. Dawson-Bryant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Dawson-Bryant is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Rock Hill on Wednesday. They fell 4-1 to the Redmen.
Dawson-Bryant saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Bare, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Bare hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Point). Everything went their way against Chesapeake on Friday as they made off with a 17-2 win. Considering the Pointers have won three matches by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kota Copley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Copley was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Copley is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Saratina Jackson was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyleigh Castle, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
South Point kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.
South Point's record is now 4-1. As for Dawson-Bryant, their loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dawson-Bryant has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dawson-Bryant beat South Point 10-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pointers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
