St. Catherine and Bishop O'Connell are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2015, but not for long. The Saints will head out on the road to square off against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
St. Catherine's is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since October 6th on Wednesday. They came up short against Collegiate, falling 3-0. The Saints haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
St. Catherine's was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Bishop O'Connell faced Paul VI in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Knights fell 3-1 to the Panthers. That makes it the first time this season the Knights have let down their home crowd.
While Bishop O'Connell ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20.
St. Catherine's will have to keep a close watch on Caroline Semko and Natalie Hobson, a pair of players who had a big impact on Bishop O'Connell's prior game. Semko had 15 digs and two aces, while Hobson had three aces and two blocks. Hobson is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 12 games she's played.
Bishop O'Connell suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 21-2. As for St. Catherine's, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-14.
St. Catherine's suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Bishop O'Connell in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
