Softball Recap: Westville Drops Season-High Score on Chrisman

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westville). They put the hurt on the Chrisman Cardinals with a sharp 23-0 victory on Monday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Layla Atwood made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Sabalaskey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Daylin Zaayer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Westville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chrisman only posted an OBP of .250.

Westville's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 26-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Chrisman, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Looking ahead, Westville will head out to face off against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chrisman, they will take on Hutsonville/Palestine at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Tigers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
