Softball Recap: Mankato West Has No Trouble Against Albert Lea

Mankato West won the last time they faced Albert Lea and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Scarlets put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 17-3 victory. With that win, the Scarlets brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.

Evelyn Erickson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Lyla Baker and Lydia Banse did most of the damage at the plate: Baker went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Banse went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Jillian Olsen, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Mankato West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Albert Lea only posted an OBP of .273.

Mankato West's record now sits at 5-3. As for Albert Lea, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Mankato West will take on Red Wing at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Albert Lea, they will square off against John Marshall at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
