Baseball Game Preview: Sonora Raiders vs. Oxford Academy Patriots

The Sonora Raiders will take on the Oxford Academy Patriots at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Neither Sonora nor Oxford Academy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Sonora's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Wednesday. They skirted past Spanish Springs 1-0. While the Raiders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sonora saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Crowder, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Oxford Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Segerstrom. That's two games in a row now that the Patriots have lost by just one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Sonora and bumps their season record up to 7-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Oxford Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
