Softball Preview: Garrett Railroaders vs. Fairfield Falcons
Garrett has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Fairfield Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Garrett fell victim to Churubusco and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 9-0 walloping at the hands of the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, Garrett's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Garrett got a good showing from Remi Winebrenner, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned run off one hit (she also only allowed one walk).
On the hitting side, Garrett saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarah DePew, who went 1-for-3 with a stolen base. DePew is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Fairfield made sure to put some runs up on the board against Goshen on Saturday. Everything went Fairfield's way against Goshen as Fairfield made off with a 13-1 victory. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for Fairfield this season.
Jayslynn Hall and Preslee Caouette did most of the damage at the plate: Hall scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Caouette scored a run while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Adelyn Holsopple, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Garrett now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Fairfield, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Garrett has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Garrett came up short against Fairfield when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 13-10. Can Garrett avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
