Preview: Mount Pisgah Christian Patriots vs. Mount Vernon Mustangs
After each having a week off, The Mount Pisgah Christian Patriots and the Mount Vernon Mustangs will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 4:00 p.m. on October 20th. Hopefully Mount Pisgah Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday.
After soaring to 31 points the game before, Mount Pisgah Christian were a bit more limited in their match. They took a serious blow against Christian Heritage, falling 42-10. Mount Pisgah Christian was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon got the win against Mt. Zion on Friday by a conclusive 42-17. Given Mount Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 190th, while Mt. Zion is ranked 383rd), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Sam Nazarian continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 204 yards and four touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Mount Vernon also got help from Bristan DeRocher who showed off his sure hands for 101 receiving yards.
Mount Vernon's win bumped their season record to 5-2 while Mount Pisgah Christian's loss dropped theirs to 3-4.
Mount Pisgah Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Mount Vernon in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, winning 38-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Pisgah Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
