Baseball Preview: Sumrall Bobcats vs. Hattiesburg Tigers
A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Bobcats face off against the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Sumrall is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Seminary on Saturday. Sumrall had just enough and edged out Seminary 6-5. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Leo Odom, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Will Raner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Hattiesburg had just enough and edged out Forrest County Agricultural 6-4 on Friday.
Sumrall now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Hattiesburg, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Sumrall was able to grind out a solid victory over Hattiesburg in their previous matchup on Tuesday, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumrall since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
