Baseball Game Preview: Lawrence County Red Devils vs. Athens Golden Eagles

The Lawrence County Red Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Athens Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lawrence County is coming into the match hot, having won their last nine games.

Last Wednesday, Lawrence County made easy work of Priceville and carried off a 13-3 victory.

Ryder Mcgregory was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Barrett also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Athens suffered their closest defeat since March 25th on Saturday. They fell just short of East Limestone by a score of 10-8. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brady Johnston was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was John Lawrence Chittam, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Lawrence County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.

Everything went Lawrence County's way against Athens when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Lawrence County made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
