Recap: Omaha Westside Warriors vs. Elkhorn South Storm
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bellevue West, the Omaha Westside Warriors were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 85-69 victory over Elkhorn South. Given Omaha Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Elkhorn South is ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Omaha Westside got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kevin Stubblefield out in front who scored 24 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Stubblefield has scored at least 25% of Omaha Westside's points. CJ Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Despite the loss, Elkhorn South still got an impressive performance from Cooper Mroczek, who scored 32 points along with seven rebounds. Mroczek also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Aidan Skradis, who scored 18 points.
Omaha Westside is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Elkhorn South, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Omaha Westside will head out on the road to face off against Papillion-LaVista South at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Papillion-LaVista South will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Elkhorn South will take on Buena Vista at TBD on Thursday. Buena Vista comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
