Baseball Preview: Erwin Warriors vs. McDowell Titans
The Erwin Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the McDowell Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Friday, Erwin didn't have quite enough to beat Franklin and fell 8-6. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
McDowell never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against North Buncombe last Friday. They put the hurt on the Black Hawks with a sharp 14-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Titans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Cole Ramsey looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Jacob Davis was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. McDowell is undefeated when Davis posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zack Woody, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
McDowell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win got McDowell back to even at 5-5. As for Erwin, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Erwin beat McDowell 6-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Erwin since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
