Volleyball Recap: Jayda Hutchins Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Ida Baker

Mariner hadn't done well against Ida Baker recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Tritons were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Bulldogs. This was a revenge game for the Tritons: when they faced off against the Bulldogs last Monday, they had to take a 3-1 defeat.

The victory didn't come easy: Ida Baker scored at least 21 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

Mariner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayda Hutchins led the charge by getting 12 kills, eight digs, and one block. Hutchins has been hot, having posted five or more kills the last seven times she's played. Rylie Moore was another key player, getting 14 digs and one assist.

Mariner's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Ida Baker, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Mariner wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against North Fort Myers on the 30th. As for Ida Baker, they will welcome Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs are facing the Green Wave at the right time seeing as the Green Wave are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
