Avon was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Livonia on Monday. The Braves put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 9-2 victory. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Jessie Crye made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 13 strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Abby Schutz and Kyleigh DeRider did most of the damage at the plate: Schutz went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI, while DeRider went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave DeRider a new career-high. Rylie Miller was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Avon's record now sits at 12-3. As for Livonia, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8.
Coming up, Avon will venture away from home to challenge Honeoye Falls-Lima at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Livonia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
