Basketball Recap: Sewickley Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Sunday

It was a good run, but Sewickley Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Sunday. They fell to the Farrell Steelers 58-54. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Sewickley Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Farrell is ranked 322nd).

Leading Farrell to victory were Trae Cousin and Julius Phillips Jr. Cousin went 9 of 16 en route to 22 points, while Phillips Jr made all 5 shots he took to post 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Phillips Jr a new career-high in blocks (three). Juelz Johnson was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Sewickley Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-2. As for Farrell, their record now sits at 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sewickley Academy will square off against Leechburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sewickley Academy is facing Leechburg at the right time seeing as Leechburg is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Farrell, they will take on Grove City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grove City will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Farrell surely won't give up without a fight.
