Basketball Game Preview: Millard North Mustangs vs. Benson Bunnies

The Millard North Mustangs will challenge the Benson Bunnies at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Millard North has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Millard North is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Papillion-LaVista with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 82-64. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Monarchs are ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Millard North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Izzie Galligan, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 19 points and five assists. Those 19 points gave Galligan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Stevens, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 21 points.

Galligan wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Millard North was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Papillion-LaVista only racked up five assists.

Meanwhile, Benson had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Bison by a score of 57-48.

Millard North's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Benson, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-7.

Millard North was able to grind out a solid victory over Benson in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 68-55. Will Millard North repeat their success, or does Benson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
