Baseball Game Preview: Lamar Consolidated Mustangs vs. Bay City Blackcats

The Lamar Consolidated Mustangs will head out to square off against the Bay City Blackcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bay City took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lamar Consolidated, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row dating back to last season, Lamar Consolidated turned things around against Stafford on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 11-4 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mustangs needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.

Mikey Cuellar was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Sam Johnson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Lamar Consolidated always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Bay City lost 12-3 to East Bernard on Saturday. The Blackcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lamar Consolidated's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Bay City, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Lamar Consolidated came up short against Bay City in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 6-3. Can Lamar Consolidated avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
