Basketball Recap: Avery Schwarz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Augusta Christian over Heathwood Hall Episcopal

Augusta Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 54-44 to the Heathwood Hall Episcopal Highlanders. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 98th in Georgia, while the Highlanders are ranked 31st in South Carolina).

Augusta Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Avery Schwarz, who posted 13 points. That's the most points Schwarz has posted since back in November of 2024. Makenna Ellis was another key player, putting up nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Heathwood Hall Episcopal to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shamarie Hayes, who had 14 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Hayes has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Camillea Gore, who put up 14 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Augusta Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Augusta Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 32-21 win against Hammond on the 31st. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-29 victory against Cardinal Newman on the 31st.
