Basketball Recap: Byers' Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Byers can now relate to. They fell just short of the Plateau Valley Cowboys by a score of 51-49 on Thursday. The Bulldogs' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Byers saw an underclassman step up: sophomore James Maes posted 14 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Quincy Eacret, who had 12 points.

Jack Vig was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards for Plateau Valley. Vig is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 18 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cody Gutierrez, who shot 83% from the field to rack up 12 points.

Byers' defeat dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Plateau Valley, the win (which was their 23rd in a row) raised their record to 23-1.

Byers wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 56-50 loss against Sanford on the 14th. As for Plateau Valley, they have also already played their next game, a 61-46 defeat against Simla on the 14th.
