Softball Recap: Plainfield Central Comes Up Short

Plainfield Central was the 9-8 winner over Homewood-Flossmoor when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Plainfield Central fell just short of Homewood-Flossmoor by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Plainfield Central got a good showing from Kaylynn Howe, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Howe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sophia Patterson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Evalyn Prochaska, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Plainfield Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Plainfield Central now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plainfield Central will face off against Joliet Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, they will take on Richards at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
