Preview: Richmond Raiders vs. Southern Lee Cavaliers
Richmond is 8-0 against Southern Lee since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Richmond Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Southern Lee Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Richmond has seven straight victories, Southern Lee has 14 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Richmond's game was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Scotland by a score of 55-47. Given Richmond's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Scotland is ranked 139th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richmond's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamyia "Juicy" Lindsey, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lindsey has scored at least a third of Richmond's points. Jasiah "JoJo" Gilchrist was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Southern Lee suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were beaten by Lee County 61-7.
Richmond's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Southern Lee, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
Everything came up roses for Richmond against Southern Lee in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 68-7 win. With Richmond ahead 43-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.
