Volleyball Recap: Orcutt Academy Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against San Luis Obispo Classical Academy last Tuesday, Orcutt Academy came back down to earth. The Orcutt Academy Spartans fell just short of the Santa Ynez Pirates by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Pirates when the teams met back in February of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Orcutt Academy took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, 15-7.

Charlie Stewart and Seamus Gault certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Stewart had 20 digs, while Gault had 12 kills, nine digs, and two blocks. That's the most digs Stewart has posted since back in February.

Orcutt Academy's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-2. As for Santa Ynez, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orcutt Academy will head out to take on Cabrillo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Ynez, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mission College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
