Recap: South Mecklenburg Sabres vs. Porter Ridge Pirates
The South Mecklenburg Sabres were the 34-0 winner over the Porter Ridge Pirates when they last played one another back in September of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. South Mecklenburg was dealt a 49-13 loss at the hands of Porter Ridge on Friday. While losing is never fun, South Mecklenburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Porter Ridge is ranked 20th).
Jared Lockhart was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 103 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Lockhart's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. Samaad Peoples also helped out as he racked up 103 rushing yards.
South Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Porter Ridge, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
South Mecklenburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Myers Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Myers Park has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 184 points over their last four matches. As for Porter Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Sun Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sun Valley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
