Independence is 8-1 against Africentric Early College since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The 76ers will host the Nubians at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Independence's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Briggs 52-0. The matchup marked the 76ers' most dominant victory of the season.
Gabriel Ogbara continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 249 yards and three scores while picking up 13.1 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 77-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Darren White-Tyler, who rushed for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Independence was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 416 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 175 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Africentric Early College's rock-solid defense showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They blew past Marion-Franklin, posting a 32-0 win. Considering the Nubians have won five games by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Africentric Early College found their leader in sophomore Larell Hairston, who rushed for 147 yards and two TDs on only 15 carries. Those 147 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Hairston. Another player making a difference was Josh Smith, who rushed for 86 yards and one score on only ten carries.
Independence's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Africentric Early College, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Independence has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 311.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Africentric Early College struggles in that department as they've been averaging 180.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
