Basketball Recap: Tonopah Valley Comes Up Short

Tonopah Valley lost against Yuma Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Tonopah Valley Phoenix were beaten by the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks 63-14. The match marked the Phoenix's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

It was another big night for Fernando Vazquez Lima, who went 5 for 11 en route to 16 points for Yuma Catholic. Vazquez Lima has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Santiago Vazquez Lima, who posted nine points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Tonopah Valley and nudges their season record down to 3-12. As for Yuma Catholic, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Tonopah Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-39 win against Apache Junction on the 20th. Yuma Catholic has also already played their next match, a 74-36 victory against River Valley on the 18th.
