Softball Game Preview: Holy Cross Knights vs. Incarnate Word Shamrocks

Holy Cross hasn't had much luck against Incarnate Word recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Holy Cross Knights will square off against the Incarnate Word Shamrocks at 4:00 p.m. Holy Cross will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Holy Cross' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against John F. Kennedy as Holy Cross made off with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Haven Castillo was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Leena Garcia and Aymee Perez did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Perez scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Garcia has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ariel Bosman, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Holy Cross kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Incarnate Word beat Crockett 6-3 last Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Shamrocks.

Holy Cross pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Incarnate Word, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 6-7.

Holy Cross came up short against Incarnate Word in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, falling 10-5. Can Holy Cross avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
