League recap: Bourbon County tops Estill County to extend winning streak

Bourbon County extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 5 this week by beating Estill County, 43-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Colonels.

The Engineers lost to Bourbon County 43-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Trevor Jones was a bright spot for Estill County, as he threw for 73 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 68 yards in the defeat.

John Hodge's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dalton Pope threw for 87 and 2 touchdowns and Snoop Johnson had 76 yards receiving. On the ground Marquaze Hill contributed 93 yards. Tyler Ishmael helped Bourbon County's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 12 yards.

Brent Holman made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Colonels beat Mike Jones' team. The 5-foot-11 junior grabbed 2 sacks.

Jones was a passing and rushing force as the Engineers lost to Bourbon County. Jones' key target this week was Chipper Hitchcock, who caught 3 passes for 49 yards.

Johnson was the best wideout in the league this week as the Colonels defeated Estill County. Johnson tallied 5 receptions for 76 yards. Ishmael helped Bourbon County's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 12 yards.

Bourbon County's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Colonels feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Pope has thrown for 1,331 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 20 catches for 536 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bourbon County takes on Garrard County. As it stands, the Colonels are in first, while the Golden Lions are in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Bourbon County takes on Garrard County. The Colonels have allowed 95 points this season, while Mark Scenters' team has given up 128. Bourbon County allowed 14 points last week as it topped the Engineers.

The Colonels led 3A District 5 in scoring this week by notching 43 points on Estill County. Pope in the win.
