Basketball Recap: Chavez Comes Up Short

Chavez was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 72-29 loss at the hands of the Grant Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1361st, while the Lancers are ranked 472nd).

Leading Grant to victory were Kai Setareh and RONALD MERRILL. Setareh went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points and five rebounds, while MERRILL went 5 for 11 on his way to 12 points. MERRILL has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was NOAH LETT, who posted six points and seven boards.

Chavez's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Grant, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-9 record.

Chavez will challenge North Hollywood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Grant, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 73-61 loss against Campbell Hall on the 28th.
