The Pinewood Prep Panthers will square off against the Charleston Math & Science Riptide at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pinewood Prep's pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so Charleston Math & Science's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Pinewood Prep is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: Fort Dorchester, who was ranked 16th at the time (Pinewood Prep was ranked 23rd). The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Patriots on Monday.
Meanwhile, Charleston Math & Science waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Islanders. Considering the Riptide have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Audriana Frasier made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Dazaria Frost was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ellis Britt, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Charleston Math & Science always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in six consecutive games.
Charleston Math & Science's victory bumped their record up to 14-7-1. As for Pinewood Prep, their win bumped their record up to 22-0.
Everything went Pinewood Prep's way against Charleston Math & Science in their previous meeting back in March, as Pinewood Prep made off with a 9-1 victory. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Riptide have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
