Basketball Game Preview: Cheraw Braves vs. Scotland Fighting Scots

Two dominant guards in Elijah McClain and Jerrison Dixon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cheraw Braves just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Scotland Fighting Scots at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Cheraw is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Richmond on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Cheraw took a blow against Richmond, falling 70-40. The Braves have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Scotland came into Saturday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Dillon Christian on Saturday as Scotland made off with a 62-36 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Fighting Scots' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 493rd in North Carolina, while the Warriors are ranked 202nd in South Carolina).

Scotland found their leader in sophomore Dixon, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Dixon's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of LaSean Pittman, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Scotland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 27 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Cheraw's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Scotland, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6.
