Baseball Recap: Reese Takes a Loss

Reese extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 20-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sandusky Wolves. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rockets have suffered since April 30th.

As for Sandusky, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.

For Sandusky's part, Nathaniel Tovar made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tovar has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Green, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Bowerman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Reese and Sandusky should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Rockets (ranked 114th) will meet Boyne City (ranked 459th) at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Sandusky will square off against Memphis at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (88 vs. 339).
