Preview: Wylie East Raiders vs. South Garland Titans
Wylie East has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the South Garland Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Wylie East's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six games.
Wylie East posted their biggest win since December 12, 2023 on Sunday. They put the hurt on North Garland with a sharp 74-52 win. Given Wylie East's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while North Garland is ranked 804th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to South Garland, who are still winless after their 20th contest. Their rough 69-45 defeat to Rowlett on Friday might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat South Garland has suffered since December 19, 2023.
Despite the loss, South Garland had strong showings from Elijah Darden, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds, and Medford Body, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. That was a full 44.4% of South Garland's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Rueben Davis was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Wylie East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for South Garland, they bumped their record down to 0-20 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Wylie East against South Garland in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 72-45 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wylie East since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
