Baseball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Majors vs. Hayfield Hawks

Mount Vernon hasn't had much luck against Hayfield recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Majors will take on the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mount Vernon barely beat Falls Church the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Majors never let the Jaguars get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Majors as they're now sitting on nine straight.

Hayfield came out on top against Falls Church on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Jaguars. The win was familiar territory for the Hawks, who have now won six games in a row.

Hayfield got a massive performance out of Jacob Bueno, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Bueno a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Ross, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Mount Vernon's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Hayfield, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.

Mount Vernon might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Hayfield in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Majors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
