Recap: Burlington Cougars vs. Elbert Bulldogs

The Burlington Cougars's four-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They skirted past Elbert 55-52. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Burlington also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.

Leading Burlington to victory were Keziah Williams and Daniel Chacon. Williams dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Chacon scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. Williams also posted eight assists for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adan Lopez-Mitchell, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Logan LaFollette, who scored 21 points along with three steals. LaFollette scored a full 40.4% of Elbert's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Eli Cornell was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six assists and five rebounds.

Elbert struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Burlington's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Elbert, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burlington will take on Wray at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wray focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday. As for Elbert, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Limon at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
