Softball Game Preview: Lambert Longhorns vs. Duluth Wildcats

The Lambert Longhorns will challenge the Duluth Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lambert is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Eight must be Lambert's lucky number: they beat North Atlanta with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Longhorns didn't even let the Warriors on the board, marking the Longhorns' second-straight 8-0 shutout. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Olivia Cantarutti was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September. Katia Castillo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Duluth didn't have quite enough to beat Mill Creek on Tuesday and fell 6-4.

Kaylie Zirger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Duluth dropped their record down to 11-13 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those road defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Lambert, their win bumped their record up to 14-11.

Lambert took their victory against Duluth in their previous matchup back in September of 2020 by a conclusive 8-0 score. Do the Longhorns have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
