Recap: Mercer Island Islanders vs. Hazen Highlanders

There's no place like home for the Mercer Island Islanders, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 60-48 victory over Hazen on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mercer Island also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Caitlin Monahan was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Elianna Weiss, who scored 13 points along with four steals.

Hazen's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dakota Nap, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Nap has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Garrett, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.

Mercer Island's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Hazen, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercer Island will face off against Bellevue at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Hazen, they will head out on the road to take on Interlake at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
