Football Preview: Flomaton Hurricanes vs. Northview Chiefs
The Flomaton Hurricanes will challenge the Northview Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Flomaton's defense has only allowed 14.4 points per game this season, so Northview's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Flomaton is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cottage Hill Christian Academy just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 13-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors.
Despite the defeat, Flomaton got top-tier performance from Kamden Martin, who picked up 146 receiving yards and one touchdown. Martin really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 71 yards.
Flomaton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lance Presley and Martin. Brayden Phillip was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making 16 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northview). They really took it to Central for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Chiefs needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Northview's victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7. As for Flomaton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Flomaton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 151.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Northview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 174.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Flomaton didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Northview in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 6-0 win. Will the Hurricanes repeat their success, or do the Chiefs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
