There may not be a hotter team in the country right now than
Trinity (Louisville, Ky.).
For the third straight game, the nation's fifth-ranked team was frighteningly dominant as it traveled to Cincinnati and hammered
Elder (Cincinnati, Ohio) 56-7. Elder came in ranked 48th nationally and No. 7 in Ohio.
Trinity's potent offense got started early, marching down the field on its opening possession and scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by
Dalyn Dawkins, who finished with 17 carries and 124 yards and two scores.
The Shamrocks quickly intercepted Elder quarterback Ben Gramke and scored again when
Travis Wright found
James Quick for a 30-yard touchdown. Wright finished 14 of 18 for 177 yards and two scores, while Quick had seven catches for 143 yards and three touchdowns, one on a fumble recovery in the end zone.
The duo, which has connected early and often so far this season, hooked up two more times in the second quarter, giving Trinity a 28-0 lead heading into halftime.
After Elder went three and out on its first possession of the second half, Trinity added another score. This time, it was Dawkins, with his second score of the night. He gave Trinity a 35-0 lead early in the third quarter, putting the game well out of reach.
Trinity finished with 586 yards to 181 for Elder, marking the second week in a row that the winners have piled up more than 550 yards.
No. 3 Allen prevails over Longview{PAGEBREAK}
No. 3 ALLEN DOWNS TOUGH LONGVIEW SQUADAllen (Texas) looked every bit of a Top 5 team in the country, pounding
Longview (Texas) 42-23.
Quarterback
Alec Morris threw for five touchdowns for Allen, the nation's No. 3-ranked team.
Morris came out firing early, connecting twice early with favorite target
Andrew Rodriguez on two 32-yard touchdowns to race to a 14-0 lead.
He
then called his own number later in the second quarter, plunging into
the end zone with 4:11 left in the half to extend Allen's lead to 21-0.
Longview
tried to get its offense going late in the second quarter, driving deep
into Allen territory. However, it had to settle for a field goal,
making it 21-3 at halftime.
The Eagles scored another touchdown
in the third quarter before Longview quarterback Givins Caraway plunged
across the goal line for a 1-yard score, making it 28-10.
Eric Hawkins,
who had two touchdowns last week, was once again a spark for Longview.
He caught a 48-yard touchdown from Caraway, closing the gap to 28-16.
The 2-point conversion failed.
Longview would add another late score, but Morris' fourth and fifth touchdown passes made the deficit too great to overcome.

Aquinas'
first score came after a miscue by Cypress Bay, when a punt snap sailed
high and Aquinas recovered. Aquinas quickly turned it into a score, as
Fred Coppet found the end zone on a 4-yard run to give Aquinas a 7-0 lead.
Aquinas
had a chance to tack on to its lead, but a long field goal attempt
sailed wide. Cypress Bay had an opportunity to get on the board before
halftime, but also missed a field goal attempt as time expired. Aquinas
took its 7-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the nation's No. 4 team turned it up a notch.
With
less than eight minutes to play in the third quarter, Coppet struck
again, dancing his way into the end zone for a 6-yard score. Backfield
mate
Dami Ayoola then got into the action with a 60-yard touchdown jaunt, making it 21-0 with 4:52 left in the third.
Before
the third quarter ended, Ayoola would strike again to put the game out
of reach, 28-0. Aquinas also added two late field goal.
No. 17 St. Xavier ends Colerain's home streak{PAGEBREAK}
NO. 17 ST. XAVIER ENDS COLERAIN'S 61-GAME HOME STREAKCincinnati-area football fans didn't have to wait long for this year's
blockbuster game. The
St. Xavier at
Colerain rivalry didn't disappoint at Cardinal Stadium.
St. Xavier senior running back
Conor Hundley rushed for two touchdowns and Colerain missed a late field
goal with seconds remaining as the Bombers defeated host Colerain 17-14. The Bombers' win snapped Colerain's 61-game home
consecutive winning streak. Colerain's last previous home loss occurred
against La Salle in Week 10 of the 1999 season.
St. Xavier called three consecutive timeouts before Colerain attempted what would've been a game-tying field goal. Hundley finished with 20 carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns.
"It's what a kid dreams about," Hundley told the Enquirer about tonight's win.
Hundley
had rushed for 157 yards and four touchdowns in the Bombers' 38-21 win
over Pickerington Central at Ohio Stadium last week.
Colerain led St.
X 14-7 at halftime before Hundley scored on a 4-yard run with 2:30 left
in the third quarter. St. Xavier, ranked 17th nationally, had 255 total yards to Colerain's 180.
It
the first meeting since St. X defeated Colerain 24-23 in the Division I
regional semifinal in the 2010 season. The Bombers are now 6-2 in the
past eight meetings between the schools since 2005.
Colerain coach Tom Bolden told The Enquirer earlier this week that the Cardinals (2-1) had used last year's game as motivation.
The
teams hadn't played in the regular season since the 2009 Skyline Chili
Crosstown Showdown. Tonight's game was the first of a home-and-home
series between the two schools. St. Xavier will host the game in 2012.
"I
think games like this are what most high school football fans love to
see," St. Xavier coach Steve Specht said earlier this week. "We get these
matchups in the playoffs, but I think it would be great to see more of
them during the regular season."
St. Xavier is ranked No. 2 in The Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, while Colerain is ranked No. 1. St. Xavier (3-0) plays host to Louisville Trinity (3-0) Sept. 16. Trinity defeated host Elder 56-7 tonight.

Another week, another big in-state victory for
Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.), which held on for a 27-21 victory over
Ben Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.).
Deionte Buckley continued his fine play in the early part of the season, getting Warren Central on the board in the first quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run.
However, he left the game due to an injury, forcing Warren Central to turn to back up
Shaquille Breeding.
Breeding did not disappoint, scoring to consecutive touchdowns as Warren Central raced to a 21-0 lead.
Ben Davis finally found the end zone in the third quarter, when quarterback Matt Brock scored on a 5-yard run to narrow the deficit to 21-7.
The comeback attempt continued when Warren Central sailed a snap over its punter's head into the end zone. Ben Davis recovered, making it 21-14.
Following a
Kyle Faunce touchdown run, Davis answered again, this time on a Lamont Osborn 11-yard touchdown run, closing the gap to 27-21.
Davis had one more chance, getting the ball back after stopping Warren Central with less than five minutes to play. However, it was unable to convert on 4th-and-11 inside Warren Central territory.
Lake Travis swamps Aledo {PAGEBREAK}
GRIFFIN GILBERT LEADS LAKE TRAVIS OVER JOHNATHAN GRAY, ALEDOGriffin Gilbert, the younger brother of Texas quarterback and former MaxPreps National Player of the Year Garrett Gilbert, caught four touchdown passes as visiting
Lake Travis exacted a measure of revenge with a resounding 62-35 win over host
Aledo.
Lake Travis had won its previous 48 games before losing to Aledo in a
Week 3 matchup last season. It was a meeting between the two eventual
Class 4A state champions.
Aledo, which entered the season No. 21 in the nation, dropped to 1-2. It got more than 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Texas-bound
Johnathan Gray, rated the top running back in the country by most recruiting services.
After an opening-week loss to Stephenville, Aledo responded with a 50-7 win over Weatherford last week when Gray racked up 336 rushing yards on five touchdowns. Lake Travis was coming off a 43-14 win over Hendrickson (Pflugerville) as junior quarterback
Baker Mayfield threw for 253 yards and five touchdowns.
Mayfield had another big game against Aledo.
Bellevue keeps rolling {PAGEBREAK}
NO. 22 BELLEVUE ROLLS SKYLINE IN NORTHWEST SHOWDOWNNot many programs in the state – or country for that matter – can claim to have Bellevue's number.
But entering Friday night's showdown between Washington's top two programs over the last decade, Skyline claimed victories over the Wolverines in each of the past two meetings, including a come-from-behind 28-21 victory last season.
Second-half touchdowns by senior quarterback
Tyler Hasty and junior linebacker
Sean Constantine ensured
Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.) wouldn't achieve the three-peat as
Bellevue (Wash.) pulled away for a 31-17 victory.
Bellevue and Skyline – winners of a collective 12 state titles since 2001 – entered the half locked at 17, seemingly setting the stage for another dramatic finish.
Hasty set up his 4-yard touchdown run with a long pass to sophomore sensation
Bishard Baker four minutes into the third quarter.
Constantine ended the scoring in the final minute of the third stanza, picking off a pass and racing 45 yards for the pick six.
Bellevue has won 14-straight games dating back to last season's setback against Skyline and 26 of the last 27 since September of 2009.
St. Bonaventure surprises No. 20 Centennial{PAGEBREAK}
ST. BONAVENTURE GROUNDS OUT WIN OVER NO. 20 CENTENNIALShaun Wick had a key interception and the go-ahead touchdown - a 7-yard touchdown run - leading 10-time Southern Section champion
St. Bonaventure (Ventura, Calif.) to an entertaining 29-27 win at the nation's No. 20 team
Centennial (Corona, Calif.).
According to the Los Angeles Times, following Wick's touchdown, St. Bonaventure increased the lead to 29-20 on a 6-yard TD pass from
Marc Evans to Spencer Andrews with 4:23 left.
Centennial, which lost for the first time at home since 2009 and its first season-opening loss since 2004, came right back on a 19-yard touchdown pass from
Hayden Gavett to
Giles Guy-Williams with 2:51 left.
But St. Bonaventure, which had 100-yard rushing days from Wick and Zack Green, ran out the clock.
Romello Goodman, a 5-5 running back, had a game-high 191 yards on 28 carries for Centennial.
